Switchable glass
Clear when you want the view. Private when you press the switch
A liquid-crystal film, laminated inside a new glass panel or applied to glass that is already in the building. Energised, it is clear. Switched off, it turns opaque white, and the room behind it is gone. The change takes under 200 milliseconds one way and under 10 the other, and a panel held clear draws under 0.5 W per square foot.
It replaces blinds, frosted film and the second wall you were going to build for a meeting room. PriWatt manufactures it in Pompano Beach, Florida, and has since 2016.

What it costs, per square foot
These are the ranges PriWatt works within. Where a project lands inside them depends on panel size, quantity and how the glass is switched; the number that matters is the one on the quote, and the quote comes from the opening sizes. Hardware, wiring and installation are priced with the project.

Certified safety glazing
The laminated products carry SGCC 9894, tested to ANSI Z97.1 and 16 CFR 1201. That is what a door, a shower enclosure or a railing needs before an inspector signs it off.
UL listed
UL file E514182. The electrical side — transformers, controllers and the film as a load — is listed, which is what an electrical engineer asks for first.

Laminated, wired, assembled and tested in Florida: made in the USA from domestic and imported components. A panel that needs adjusting is remade here, not re-imported.

New York and Miami
Two cities, one plant
The glass is made in one place and reaches both. What differs is the distance, and who stands on site.
Miami
The plant is in Pompano Beach, Broward County, up the coast from the city. Panels are delivered from the line, a technical question is answered by the person who built the panel, and a project team can see the product switching before it is specified.
New York
Panels ship crated from Florida to the site. Survey, shop drawings and installation are handled through PriWatt’s installation partners; wiring is drawn before anyone is on a ladder. Lead time for switchable glass is 30 days. Send the opening sizes and the project address and the quote comes back with the delivery date.
Common questions
Film goes onto glass that is already in the building and is the faster, cheaper route for a retrofit. Laminated glass is a new panel with the switchable layer sealed inside it, and it is what a door, a shower, a railing or anything the code calls a hazardous location needs. If the glass is staying, film; if it is being replaced anyway, glass.
No. In normal mode the unpowered state is the private one and draws nothing; in reverse mode the unpowered state is clear. Power is used only to hold the other state, at under 0.5 W per square foot.
Under 200 milliseconds to clear and under 10 milliseconds to private — faster than a blind, and with nothing moving.
Yes, as an insulated unit or as DLC glass, which tints to dark rather than frosting white and is specified where solar gain matters as much as privacy. Interior film is not an exterior product.
Lead time for switchable glass is 30 days. It is a schedule rather than an estimate, because the plant is in Florida and the panel is made, wired and tested on one line. Film applied to existing glass is quoted with the project.
