Smart glass manufacturing at PriWatt

Inside the Pompano Beach plant where PriWatt switchable glass is made.

What is in this film

Filmed on the floor at Pompano Beach, Florida.

It starts at a CNC table, where a cutting head runs across white material and cuts the film to size. Behind it stands the stock it comes off: a full roll of PDLC film, with the operators working in white coveralls and PriWatt caps.

That part of the plant is a cleanroom, and it is there for one reason — the switchable film goes between two sheets of glass, and anything that lands on it before they close is in the panel for the life of it.

The rest of the film is the glass itself being handled. Large panels are lifted by vacuum frames, the round pads taking the weight, and moved across red roller conveyors from one station to the next. One of them is a DLC panel, dark rather than milky, which is the other thing this floor laminates. Nothing here is carried by hand that a lifter can hold.
