What is DLC Smart Glass?

PriWatt™ DLC smart glass uses advanced Dye Liquid Crystal technology laminated between two layers of architectural safety glass.

Unlike conventional switchable privacy glass, DLC transitions between a transparent tinted appearance and a deep black privacy state, combining instant privacy with solar control and premium aesthetics.

How It Works

The Principles of DLC Technology

PriWatt™ DLC (Dyed Liquid Crystal) glass uses a guest-host liquid crystal system in which specially engineered dichroic dye molecules are combined with liquid crystals inside a laminated glass structure. By applying an electrical field, the liquid crystal molecules—and the dye molecules that follow their orientation, change the way visible light is transmitted through the glass, allowing it to switch instantly between a dark tinted state and a clear view.

The Science Behind It

DLC technology controls light absorption using dye molecules embedded within a liquid crystal matrix between two conductive ITO layers.

When voltage is applied, the liquid crystals align, rotating the dye molecules to increase visible light transmission. Without power, the molecules return to a random orientation, absorbing more light and producing a deep neutral-gray appearance for privacy and solar control.
