A storefront that keeps the daylight and loses the audience

The training rooms were glazed to bring daylight in. The same glazing put every session on view from the car park, and after dark, with the room lit, it did it better. DLC switchable film was applied to the storefront that was already there, in coordination with Bycor General Contractors.

The problem with a glass front

Seminars, workshops and internal programs ran behind glass facing public ground. Daytime visibility was a nuisance; at night, interior lighting turned the facade into a lit display of whatever was on the screen. Blinds or curtains would have fixed it and undone the architecture — the building was drawn as a clean glass front, and it had to stay one.

Film on the glass that was already there

PriWatt DLC film went onto the existing storefront. Powered, the glass is clear and the room keeps its daylight; unpowered, it becomes an even opacity that stops the view from both sides and still lets light through. There is nothing hanging, nothing tracking and nothing to draw back.

Why it reads as part of the building

Switchable film on an exterior storefront is a construction job as much as a glazing one. Bycor sequenced it so that the specialty work had the conditions it needed:

Storefront glazing handed over in a condition fit for film application
Electrical routing to each glazing section planned before the finishes closed
Trade sequencing that gave the installers access — and protection afterwards
Wiring, controls and film integration finished out of sight

The result reads as though the glass was ordered this way, which is the point: the privacy is a property of the facade, not something added to the front of it.
