Glass that was already in the building, made switchable

GE Vernova builds the equipment that electrifies and decarbonises power systems. Its own workplace was asked to do something smaller and just as practical: give meeting and executive areas privacy on demand without closing the interior in.

The brief

The partitions were glazed, open and in daily use. Blinds would have solved the privacy and lost the architecture; replacing the glass would have closed the floor for weeks. What was wanted was the same glass, able to turn private for the length of a meeting and clear again afterwards.

What was installed

PriWatt switchable film was applied to the existing partitions and wired to low-voltage power, so each run of glass switches together instead of panel by panel. Smart Glass Technologies carried out the work inside an operating office: existing glass retrofitted, power integrated, alignment held across every panel, and the floor in use throughout.

The result

Meeting and executive areas take privacy at the moment they need it and give the light back when the meeting ends. The switch is even across the panels, the clear state keeps the daylight the floor was designed around, and there is nothing hanging in front of the glass to clean, replace or straighten: no blinds, no track, no moving parts.
