PriWatt PDLC Film Adds Smart Privacy at Summerwood HQ

Summerwood Corporation · PriWatt PDLC film

The office that wanted glass walls and closed doors

The brief was ordinary and hard to satisfy: keep the headquarters open and full of daylight, and still hold a private conversation in it. Not a room that is always private: the same rooms, private for the hour that needs it.

The contradiction in a glass office

Glass partitions are why a modern workplace feels open, light and finished. They are also why the HR conversation happens somewhere else. Every conventional answer costs something the office was built for:

  • Frosted glass takes the openness away permanently, in every room, all year
  • Blinds look temporary in a space that was detailed to look permanent
  • Curtains belong to a different kind of building altogether
  • And a windowless room somewhere is a room nobody books twice
A Summerwood office partition in PriWatt smart glass, switched to privacy

What was installed

PriWatt PDLC film was integrated into the glass partitions of the private offices across the workspace. With no power the glass is opaque and the room is closed; powered, it is clear and the light and the sightlines come back. The change is immediate, and it happens at a wall switch. From the user’s side it behaves like the lighting.

  • Film inside the laminated glass assembly, not stuck to the face of it
  • One appearance across the panels, not panel-by-panel variation
  • Wiring concealed in the partition; control on the wall
  • Fast, uniform switching: the behaviour interior glass needs

Why PDLC suits an interior partition

Inside a building the privacy is wanted in bursts: a meeting, a review, an interview. PDLC is at its best exactly there: quick to switch, even in appearance, and clear enough the rest of the time that the partition reads as architecture and not as equipment.

  • Privacy that is temporary by default, not permanent
  • Glass partitions kept as part of the design language
  • Minimal detailing, with nothing added in front of the glass
  • Rooms that change state faster than the meeting starts

The result

The headquarters kept its transparency and gained rooms that can close. Visitors notice the glass; the staff use it daily without thinking about it. Nothing was added to the office — the privacy is a property of the partition itself.
