Switchable Glass in Toronto

Toronto

What PriWatt supplies into Toronto

PriWatt manufactures switchable glass and film in Pompano Beach, Florida, and has supplied it across the Greater Toronto Area since 2016. Two hospitals, the Royal Ontario Museum, an Ernst & Young office, a downtown fit-out. The Toronto work is more institutional than anywhere else on this site.

Two of the five are hospitals, which is the hardest room this product is asked to work in. An intensive care unit needs the panel to fail into the state the ward wants, and it needs safety glazing an inspector will sign off. Both case studies below say how that was handled.

5 projects in Toronto

Every one of these is a building with PriWatt glass or film in it. The case study says what was made, what it cost the programme, and what was decided along the way.

The range

Glass, insulated units, and film for glass already in place

Three ways to buy the same switchable layer. Which one a project needs is decided by whether the glass exists yet, and by what the room should do with nothing switched on.

Per sq ft
Laminated switchable glass — private with no power$78 – $115
Laminated switchable glass — clear with no power$120 – $165
Insulated unit for an outside window$140 – $230
Film applied to glass already in the building$65 – $75

Ranges, not quotations. Where a project lands inside them comes out of the opening sizes. The full table, with every measured value, is on specifications, and what moves a number up or down is on pricing.

Getting it there

Made in Florida, delivered into Ontario

Toronto is the one city here on the far side of a border. The projects below crossed it, and the schedule they ran to is the schedule a new project is quoted against.

Shipped crated from the plant

Lead time for switchable glass is 30 days from the settled specification. Customs and duty are quoted per project rather than assumed.

Certified for the rooms it goes in

The laminated products carry SGCC 9894, tested to ANSI Z97.1 and 16 CFR 1201. The electrical side is listed under UL file E514182.

Installed through partners, or supply-only

Survey, shop drawings and installation through PriWatt’s partners — or the panel schedule goes to the glazier already on the project.

For architects and specifiers

Everything a drawing needs, before you draw it

Switchable glass reaches most drawings as the words "smart glass" and reaches site as whatever could be sourced. The documents that close that gap are published, and they come from the company that makes the panel.

The CSI specification

Three-part, MasterFormat 08 88 00, ready to edit into a project manual.

CAD details, PDF and DXF

The laminated make-up, film on existing glazing, the wiring, and the panel size limits.

Every measured value

Optical, electrical and physical data for all six products, stated by optical state.

Certification you can cite

UL file E514182 for the electrical system, SGCC 9894 for the laminated safety glazing.

For glaziers and installers

Fitting PriWatt in Toronto

A laminated switchable panel is glazed like any other laminated panel, and film goes onto a pane that is already fitted. The low-voltage side is a defined scope; the mains supply belongs to an electrician. Companies that already do this work are who PriWatt installs through.

Join the installer network

Four partner tracks, because an installer and an architect arrive with different first questions.

Or bring your own glazier

Supply-only is normal. The panel schedule and the shop drawings go to whoever is fitting it.
